Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Ali — a twenty-six-year-old primary school teacher who grew up in London and has lived in Manchester for the past two years. I was named 'Teacher of the Year' at my school last year, and, perhaps less obviously, I helped design a new reading programme that raised test scores. Beyond the immediately apparent, I completed my first half marathon two years ago. At the same time, I saved enough to put a deposit down on a flat, if only because the alternative rarely serves anyone well. What I find myself returning to, more than anything else, is that I am proudest of the students who come back years later to say thank you. If nothing else, I hope this makes clear that what defines me is less any isolated fact than how the achievements that matter most are rarely the ones that look impressive on paper.
