Introducing Your Family - C1

Good afternoon, I'm Ali — a twenty-six-year-old primary school teacher who grew up in London and has lived in Manchester for the past two years. To give you a sense of who I am, I have a father named David, a doctor of nearly thirty years, and, notably, I have a mother named Sarah, a nurse at the same hospital. Beyond the obvious, I have a younger sister named Emma, nineteen, studying medicine. At the same time, I have family dinners together most evenings, particularly when other demands make that harder than it sounds. If there's a thread running through all of this, it's probably that I chose teaching instead of medicine, unlike the rest of the family. In many ways, what defines me has less to do with any single fact and more to do with how growing up around hospital talk shaped my respect for hard work, even in a different career.
